The seats and back panel are the original and the car has a new MoT from May, V5 and old style log book, maintenance and workshop manuals. Work has included a bare metal respray, reconditioning the engine (less than 1,000 miles have been driven since), complete overhaul of the brakes, front and rear suspension, new leather trim and carpets, new front wings, new hood, stove enamelled wheels, stainless steel exhaust system and much rechroming and fine detailing.

Over the past five years the owner has restored the car to an extremely high standard. The paint was in poor condition, as were the front wings, but otherwise it was very original. This example is an original right hand drive UK car and has had two owners since 1970. If there was anything Charlie would do differently, it would be to install a modern one-piece engine rear main seal in place of the original period correct two-piece setup. The headlamps were also more recessed and outside door handles were introduced.

It can be distinguished from the TR3 largely by the revised front grill which became full width with the side lights incorporated. The TR3A is by far the most desirable and popular version of the Triumph sportscars. Almost 60,000 of these were built of which less than 2,000 remained in Britain. Most prolific of the four-cylinder TR sportscars was the TR3A of 1957-61. The TR3 of 1955 was an improved version, of which the great majority were exported. This used a version of the 2-litre Standard Vanguard/Ferguson tractor engine that was immensely robust and provided adequate power for excellent acceleration and a top speed in excess of 100mph. Triumph's illustrious mass-produced TR series of sportscars commenced with the TR2 at the 1952 London Motor Show. Suspension: front, independent unequal length A brackets with coil springs, rear, live axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs.

Transmission: four-speed manual with overdrive, synchromesh on 2nd, 3rd and 4th. It's easier to find a restored one than one with patina.Engine: four-cylinder in-line, overhead valve, cast iron block, 1991cc, bore and stroke 83mm x 92mm, compression ratio 8.5:1, 100bhp at 5000rpm, twin SU H6 carburettors. On a car meet this car sticks out amongst all the other restored TR3s. Have original carbs that go with the car. Starts easliy with Weber Carbs that perform flawlessly. Mechanically, it runs out extremely well. The paint on the passenger side door shows signs of the repair. 1962 Triumph TR3AA nice, restored late 1962 TR3-A finished in its original color Black with Red interior.

The paint shows nice but if you look closely, you see the signs of age such as touchups and 'spiderweb' cracks. The car's odometer shows less than 16,000 miles which may very well be the original mileage, since it was sitting for so long. The underside of the car body has been rust proofed. There was a repair done to the passenger side door in the late 60s to remove a dent. I made sure it was safe to drive (new brakes, cylinders and converted to silicone brake fluid etc) and reliable (rebuilt carburetors, converted to modern oil filters etc.). I didn't want to restore a car which was in this sort of condition and opted to conserve its patina. The car had been stored in a garage for a long time by the widow of the first owner. When I eventually bought the car, it just had to be cleaned up and polished. This is a very nice example of a Triumph TR3a with great history.
